About Ars Magna

A theme for Obsidian, inspired by the works of Athanasius Kircher. It has 57 GitHub stars and is steadily gaining traction in the community. As a legacy theme, Ars Magna uses the older Obsidian CSS structure — most modern features still work, but you may want to combine it with a community CSS snippet for newer Obsidian functionality.

The theme supports both dark and light mode — switch from Settings → Appearance, and both color schemes are designed to be paired with the theme without re-tweaking. Callouts, code blocks, tables, and headings are styled to work consistently in both modes. Installation is one click — open Obsidian, go to Settings → Appearance → Themes → Browse, search for "Ars Magna", and click Install. The theme's CSS is bundled with Obsidian's theme store, so there is no manual file copying or CSS snippet setup required.

Ars Magna was last updated 5 years ago and currently has no open issues on the GitHub repo. A clean issue tracker is a good sign of a stable, production-ready release.

The live CSS preview on this page shows the theme's actual stylesheet in an Obsidian-like frame, so you can see how it looks with real callouts, tables, code blocks, and the workspace tabs.
